This statement contradicts the methodology of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah, for they affirm Allah's attributes as real, not metaphorical, and they consign the modality (kayfiyyah) to Allah. Many scholars have transmitted the consensus of the Salaf on this matter, as they accepted the Ahadith of the attributes as they came, without anthropomorphizing (takyif) or metaphorical interpretation (ta'wil), thereby affirming their reality and denying knowledge of their modality. Discourse on the attributes is a branch of discourse on the essence (Dhat); just as affirming the essence is an affirmation of existence, not modality, so too is affirming the attributes an affirmation of existence, not a limitation or anthropomorphism. It is impermissible to divert the meaning of the revealed texts from their apparent (literal) sense, for that is speaking about Allah without knowledge.
