Is it permissible for someone afflicted with chronic urethral discharge (madhy) to clean himself (istinjāʾ) and perform ablution (wuḍūʾ) while naked, then use tissues for protection before dressing, or must he use tissues for protection after cleaning himself and before ablution, otherwise his ablution would be invalid?

The person afflicted with chronic urethral discharge (madhy) must wash the affected area and guard himself [i.e., protect his clothes from contamination] before performing ablution (wudu'). However, if he performs ablution before guarding himself, his ablution is not invalidated, provided that his guarding himself does not result in something that nullifies the ablution. The Maliki school of thought holds that it is not obligatory to tie a cloth [to prevent discharge] after purification with water (istinja (definition)'), but rather it is only recommended. It is permissible to follow this opinion.
