What is the ruling regarding the husband's statement, "You are divorced by three if you go to your family," if the wife goes to her in-laws' house and not to her family's, and what should be done about the wife's continued avoidance of going to her family?

A husband should help his wife maintain ties with her relatives and should not prevent her from doing so except for a valid reason. If he prevents her without a valid Shariah-compliant justification, then according to some jurists, she must obey him. A woman can try to convince her husband to visit her family or maintain ties with them through other means, such as phone calls, as maintaining ties is subject to custom.

If the husband pronounced a triple divorce conditional upon his wife visiting her family, then if she goes to her family in the sense intended by the husband, a triple divorce occurs, and the wife becomes irrevocably divorced from him (baynunah kubra). She does not become lawful for him again until she marries another husband. However, if the husband prevented her from going at a specific time, the divorce does not occur if she goes at a different time, or if the reason for which he prevented her no longer exists. The wife's hearing of the divorce pronouncement is not a condition for its occurrence.
