What is the ruling on praying Dhuhr behind an imam who delays the Adhan until half an hour before Asr, on the pretext of accommodating workers and employees? What are the proofs for this, and how should one deal with him if he errs?

It is best to pray Dhuhr at the beginning of its time, except during intense heat, in which case it is recommended to delay it (al-Ibrad). There is no harm in delaying the adhan for al-Ibrad. However, for the Imam to delay the Dhuhr prayer throughout the year until close to the end of its time is against the Sunnah. If he delays the prayer to await a larger congregation, there are two scholarly opinions on this, and the preponderant view is that the virtue of praying at the beginning of its time takes precedence. You should advise him and explain the Sunnah to him. If he insists [on delaying], and there is another mosque that prays at the beginning of the time, then praying there is more meritorious, combining the virtues of early prayer and congregational prayer. Otherwise, pray with him as long as he prays within the time; because observing the virtue of congregational prayer is more important than observing the virtue of praying at the beginning of the time.
