Muslims do not differ on the obligation of honoring parents and treating them kindly. Obedience to them is obligatory in matters that benefit them and do not harm the child. As for choosing a wife, the husband is the one addressed by this matter, and parents do not have the right to force their son to marry someone he does not want. If the parents' objection to the wife is for religious reasons (such as her lack of commitment), then obedience to them is obligatory. However, if the reasons are worldly (such as beauty or lineage), then the son is not obliged to obey them, and he has the choice to choose a woman of religious commitment. It is advised to be gentle in persuading the parents and to involve good people to avoid disobedience, while emphasizing that parental consent is not a condition for marriage if the man finds a woman of religious commitment and good character.
