Is donating money considered a form of jihad, based on the premise that the soul is predisposed to love money?

Charity (sadaqah) is one of the greatest acts of drawing closer to Allah. If its being considered part of jihad refers to the struggle against the self and opposing one's desires, then it is indeed so, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best jihad is for a man to strive against himself and his desires."

However, when the term jihad is used without qualification, it refers to striving against disbelievers with the hand, heart, tongue, and wealth. Spending money in this way is jihad in the prescribed sense, due to the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful punishment? You believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives."

The general category of jihad is an individual obligation (fard ayn), whether with the heart, tongue, wealth, or hand.
