What is the authenticity of the Hadith: "They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we find things within ourselves that it would be more beloved to one of us to fall from the Pleiades than to speak of them.' So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'Have you found that? That is pure faith. Indeed, Satan wants to make the servant fall into something less than that, but if he is protected from it, he falls into that [which is pure faith].'" And what is its explanation?

This meaning is ورد in Sahih Muslim with a similar wording: "Some people from the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came and asked him: 'Indeed, we find in ourselves that which one of us would deem too great to utter.' He said: 'And have you indeed found it?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'That is clear faith.'"

Al-Nawawi said that a Muslim's deeming of whispers (waswas) as great and his fear of them is evidence of the completeness of his faith, because Satan only whispers to those whom he has despaired of misleading.

Ibn Taymiyyah said that a believer is afflicted with disbelieving whispers that distress his heart, and that hating these whispers and repelling them from the heart is from clear faith, for the believer strives against Satan who frequently assails him when he intends to draw closer to Allah.
