Is Islamic jurisprudence, for the most part, patriarchal, and does it predominantly favor men over women's rights, thus giving the world a false impression that the religion is biased towards men?

It is not permissible to accuse jurists of bias towards men, as this impugns their justice and their faith. There is no male or female jurisprudence in our Fiqh; rather, it is an endeavor to understand the texts of the Sharia. A Muslim must believe in Allah's knowledge and wisdom in specializing both men and women with matters appropriate for them, such as the obligation of Jihad and financial support (nafaqa) upon men, and the exemption of women from these while ensuring their protection. Islamic Sharia is complete and beautiful, encompassing wisdom and mercy, and a Muslim must shun the suspicions and sayings of the Sharia's enemies.
