To what extent is it true to accuse Islam of injustice and inequality between the sexes in issues such as interfaith marriage, child marriage, women's freedom of movement, and polygyny?

First, it is emphasized that objecting to God's law and mixing its rulings with the actions of some Muslims is a serious matter. Islam is a religion of justice and ease, not harshness, and the accusations directed against it are unfounded.

Second, Islamic Sharia emphasizes equality between men and women in most rulings, especially concerning prohibitions. There are no prohibitions that are permissible for males and forbidden for females. Alcohol and fornication are forbidden for both sexes. Any leniency observed in this regard is a deviation from the Sharia.

Third, the marriage of a girl at an early age or to a man significantly older than her is not injustice, as long as it is with her consent and her guardian's approval. Islamic history bears witness to the success of marriages with significant age differences, such as the marriage of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to Khadijah and Aisha.

Fourth, Islam does not prevent a woman from going out to fulfill her needs. Rather, it stipulates a mahram (unmarriageable male relative) for her during travel to protect and safeguard her, as a woman needs greater protection due to her nature.

Fifth, Islam unanimously forbids a Muslim woman from marrying a non-Muslim, while it permits a Muslim man to marry a woman from the People of the Book (Jewish or Christian) only. This is not discrimination, but rather for a legislative wisdom; it is keen on protecting the Muslim woman from trials concerning her religion.

Sixth, a woman has the right to choose in marriage, just as a man does; in fact, she may choose more than him. Islam has honored women and preserved their rights. Any corruption observed in societies is due to the bad manners of men, the immodesty of women, and their leniency in mixing. Adherence to the Sharia protects and preserves society.
