Why do some Islamic concepts, such as a man's guardianship over a woman (qawamah) and hitting wives, contradict the principles of equality and women's rights that Islam is said to advocate, especially in the context of negative personal experiences with domestic violence?

First: Embracing Islam is a great blessing that must be held onto.

Second: Prayer is an obligatory duty upon every Muslim. It brings comfort to the soul and tranquility to the heart. Allah commanded His Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, directly concerning it in the heavens.

Third: It was your husband's duty to teach you the rulings of your religion, especially the rulings of prayer and reciting Al-Fatiha. If he was unable to do so, he should have taken you to an Islamic center for learning.

Fifth: Islam equates men and women in religious obligations and recompense. There are differences between them in some rulings due to distinctions in creation and composition. This divine legislation is wise and preserves the role of each.

Sixth: The guardianship (qawamah) of a man over a woman is his right because he spends on her and is superior to her in some aspects. This does not prevent a woman from working, provided certain conditions and regulations are met.

Eighth: The legislation of divorce in Islam is a profound wisdom for dissolving ties when harmony becomes impossible. The possibility of multiple divorces offers a chance for reconciliation. Making it in the man's hand is due to his wisdom in dealing with emotions.
