The question

What is the ruling on money taken by the husband from the company he used to work for? Is it considered good money from which one can spend? And does the verse "Good women are for good men, and good men are for good women; and bad women are for bad men, and bad men are for bad women" apply to it?

The answer

If the husband returns what he stole, or if what he took was only equal to his right, then his money is lawful. But if he does not return it, and took more than his right, then he must return it, and his repentance is not complete until he does so, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The hand is responsible for what it took until it returns it." Avoiding eating from unlawful money is the correct approach, but one is not obliged to refrain if the unlawful is mixed with the lawful. The wife has the right to request a divorce if she knows that the husband will spend on her from unlawful money, but mere suspicion does not entail a ruling.
