Is it better to suffice with istijmar using tissues to avoid the obsessive thoughts of splashing water, or is it better to use water after tissues? And is the water that comes into contact with the trace of istijmar considered impure if it touches clothes, especially given the opinion that the trace of istijmar is impure, knowing that tissues are not sufficient if urine goes beyond the usual place?
This question is an extension of the questions related to obsessive whisperings (waswasah). It is sufficient for you to perform istinja' with water or istijmar with a tissue, and it is permissible to combine both. The trace of istijmar in its place is considered among the excused impurities (najāsa ma'fu 'anha) by the majority of scholars. Indeed, some scholars even held it to be pure, and this is one of the two narrations from Ahmad. This opinion is more effective in cutting off obsessive whisperings. As for the discharge exceeding its usual place, it is estimated in urine to be half of the glans or more, and in feces to be half of the inner part of the buttocks or more. In such a case, washing becomes obligatory.
