What is the ruling on the prayer of one who performs ablution before the time of prayer begins, then passes wind before or after the time of prayer begins, knowing that the wind may continue to be emitted during the prayer, and does the definition of سلس ( سلس البول ) apply to this case?
If the emission of wind is continuous, such that it does not cease for a period sufficient for purification (wudu) and prayer, then the excused person should perform ablution after the entry of the prayer time and pray with this ablution the obligatory prayer and whatever supererogatory prayers he wishes until that time exits. It is not permissible to perform ablution before the entry of the prayer time, except according to the Maliki school of thought, or based on one opinion within the Shafi'i school, which holds that ablution is not invalidated as long as one has not prayed the obligatory prayer with it. As for Friday prayer, it is permissible for the excused person to adopt the view of Ahmad and perform ablution before zawal (midday) to attain the virtue of early attendance.
