Is it permissible to use gold in medicine, such as a scalpel or some medical instruments, for the doctor's benefit?

It is not permissible to use gold or silver in eating, drinking, or any other uses, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Do not drink in vessels of gold and silver, and do not eat in their plates, for they are for them in this world and for us in the Hereafter." Muslims have unanimously agreed on the prohibition of this for both men and women, unless necessity or need calls for their use in surgery and the like.
