What is meant by the statement of the majority of scholars regarding the invalidation of wiping [over the socks/khuff] when a part of the foot becomes exposed? Does it mean the complete invalidation of wiping and redoing the entire ablution, or redoing the ablution and wiping over the khuff (leather socks)? And if a part of the foot becomes exposed during prayer, is it obligatory to redo the entire ablution and remove the socks for the Asr prayer, or is it permissible to wipe over the socks and suffice with that, based on the fact that the disagreement among scholars was concerning the time of the foot's exposure and not the complete wiping?

If a part of the obligatory area [for washing] appears while wiping over the khuff (leather socks), the majority of scholars believe that the wiping becomes invalid. They are divided into those who mandate repeating the wudu' (ablution) and those who consider it sufficient to wash the feet. As for Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, he holds the view that the uncovering of part of the foot does not invalidate the wiping, and it is permissible to continue wiping over the khuff until it is removed or the period of wiping ends. He also believes that removing the khuff does not invalidate the previous wiping, so one may pray with that wudu' as much as they wish, and if hadath (minor impurity) occurs, then it is necessary to wash the feet. He also chose the opinion that wiping over a khuff that does not cover the ankles is not permissible.
