Why was the Qur'an of Abu Bakr not adopted as the official version? And why were the four Companions from whom the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded the reception of the Qur'an excluded from the compilation process, which led to Ibn Mas'ud's objection and his call to the people of Iraq to conceal their mushafs, and furthermore, why were their mushafs burned? And where is the verse of stoning mentioned?

Scholars have differed on whether the loss of verses occurred during the era of Abu Bakr or Uthman. It is possible that the Qur’an was followed up during both compilations, and some verses were found with some companions. Ibn Mas'ud’s protest against Uthman was because Ibn Mas'ud was in Kufa while Uthman was in Medina, and Uthman wanted to make copies of thefsahifah (pages/scrolls) that were compiled during Abu Bakr's era and make them into one mushaf. Ibn Hajar reported from Ibn Battal that burning anything containing the name of Allah is a way of honoring it and protecting it from being trodden upon. Some of the mushafs that were burned contained tafsir (exegesis) mixed with the Qur'anic text, and the purpose of Uthman's compilation was to prevent people from differing over the Qur'an.
