What is the ruling on charitable organizations, and what are the guidelines you recommend for cooperating with them and with wealthy individuals from among the general populace?
Establishing charitable societies is an endeavor of immense benefit, yielding great rewards. Among their most important works are: sponsoring orphans, assisting widows, building mosques, settling debts, facilitating marriages for bachelors, providing meals for fasting individuals, and other acts of obedience whose benefits extend to others.
Those in charge of these societies must exercise precision in spending funds, prioritizing the most important and beneficial actions, and observing the lawful recipients of zakat, as well as the conditions set by the endower or donor.
Caution must be exercised regarding partisan societies or those with corrupt beliefs, and independent Sunni societies should be encouraged.
As for dealing with people of wealth and influence, it must be done wisely, such that approaching them is for the purpose of guiding them. Some of their wise individuals should be involved in the management of the society, and they should be regularly treated with care and appreciation. They should be informed of needy cases, and prayers and praise should be offered for them.
