What is the correct action to take regarding a father's refusal to marry off his daughter to a man of good character and religious commitment, due to tribal differences, while insisting on marrying her to a man chosen by him and her mother?

A woman may not marry except through her guardian, and religious compatibility is what is considered. It is not permissible for a guardian to prevent his ward from marrying a compatible man whom she accepts; otherwise, guardianship transfers to the next in line. If all guardians prevent her, the ruler shall marry her off. It is also not permissible for a guardian to force his ward to marry someone she does not desire.

It is recommended to turn to Allah in supplication, to be gentle with the father and make him feel your submission, and to inform him of the Islamic ruling through authenticated fatwas or scholars, and to seek assistance from righteous people. One should also reconsider the choice, as the father might be in the right. If the father cannot be convinced, then patience and honoring one's parents are paramount, and Allah may compensate her with something better due to the blessing of obedience.
