Is cleaning the tongue part of the Sunnah?

Cleanliness in general is desirable in Islam, and the Prophet's Sunnah has indicated the importance of cleaning the mouth and tongue, which includes the use of the miswak and rinsing. It has been established that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used the miswak to clean his tongue. This use is beneficial in removing any coating and odor that accumulates on the tongue. Jurists have stipulated the desirability of using the miswak on the tongue, both lengthwise and crosswise. Cleaning the tongue is not limited to the miswak; rather, every means that achieves the purification and cleaning of the mouth is required, and the Muslim will be rewarded for these actions if he intends them as an act of worship and adherence to the Sunnah.
