What is the ruling on supplication and acts of worship when in need? Will one be punished for abandoning them after the need has been fulfilled? And how can one supplicate from the heart when facing problems such as distraction and laziness?

Whoever abandons supplication (du'a') and acts of obedience (ta'at) after a hardship or need has passed does not commit a sin, unless the abandoned act was obligatory. However, it is recommended for them to continue performing these acts. As for supplicating with a wandering mind and without a present heart, this contradicts the conditions for acceptance, as supplication from a heedless heart is not answered. Regarding remembrance (adhkar) such as praising Allah (tasbih) and seeking forgiveness (istighfar), their reward is obtained even without a present heart, though the recompense varies. The best is to combine verbal remembrance with a present heart.
