Is it permissible for a worker in a non-Muslim country to combine prayers (Dhuhr and Asr, and Maghrib and Isha) if he is not allowed to pray during working hours?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible for this man to continue working in a job that prevents him from performing the prayer at its appointed time, or from combining two prayers, as long as he is able to find another job that does not conflict with prayer times. However, if he is unable to switch to another job and fears harm to his livelihood, then it is permissible for him to combine the two prayers, while it remains obligatory for him to seek another job that does not conflict with prayer. Ahmad permitted combining prayers while at home when there is a necessity due to illness or occupation.
