Marital stability is a goal that Islam strives for, and spouses must preserve their rights and duties and overlook what is possible.

To husbands: Fear Allah concerning your wives, treat them kindly, and know that the best of men is he who is best to his family, and that they have rights upon you just as you have rights upon them. Allah Almighty says: "And due to them [the wives] is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable." The most important rights of a wife are to be honored and treated kindly. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The most complete in faith among believers is the one with the best character, and the best of you are the best to their women."

To wives: Know the right of the husband upon you. Obedience to him is obligatory as long as it is not in disobedience to Allah, and it takes precedence over obedience to parents. Your obedience to your husband and your fulfillment of his rights are a cause for the happiness of your marital life and for attaining great reward. Your husband's satisfaction with you is a reason for you to enter Paradise. When your husband is angry, remain silent and do not meet anger with anger, as that only worsens the matter. You can advise him after the atmosphere has calmed down.

Neither spouse should raise their voice at the other, as this leads to discord. In case of disagreement, one should absorb the other's anger with kind words and beautiful deeds.
