Is my son's 'aqiqah, which I slaughtered when he was less than six months old, sufficient, or must I slaughter again? And if I slaughter, is it only for my household, or should I give some in charity?

The age for aqiqah (sacrificial offering for a newborn) is the same as the age for udhiyah (sacrificial offering during Eid al-Adha). According to the Hanafis and Hanbalis, a jadh'a (young sheep) from the sheep family is one that has completed six months. According to the Malikis, it is one that has reached a full lunar year and entered its second. According to the Shafi'is, it is one that has reached a year, or has shed its incisor teeth after six months. If the two lambs slaughtered for the aqiqah have not reached six months, they are not sufficient, and the aqiqah must be performed again.
