What is the ruling on delaying prayer to solve problems?

If a Muslim goes to reconcile between two individuals or groups, and fears that the reconciliation might be lost if he stands for prayer, it is permissible for him to delay the congregational prayer. He can then pray it in congregation or individually, and this is considered an excuse for missing or delaying the congregation. It is narrated in the Sahihayn that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, went to reconcile between Banu Amr ibn Awf, and thus was delayed from prayer. If the prayer can be combined, such as Dhuhr with Asr or Maghrib with Isha, as a delayed combination, then there is no harm in him delaying and combining them, because the Sunnah has permitted combining prayers for an excuse even when not traveling. Ahmad and Ibn Sirin have explicitly stated the permissibility of combining prayers out of necessity, as long as it does not become a habit. However, it is not permissible to delay the prayer until its time expires without combining it. Rather, it must be performed within its time, and he may leave the congregation in the mosque and pray with those he is reconciling, out of eagerness to complete the reconciliation.
