Is one circumambulation (tawaf) and one ritual perambulation (sa'i) sufficient for the pilgrim and the children under his care?

Scholars have agreed upon the validity of a child's Hajj, but that it does not suffice for the Hajj al-Islam (the obligatory Hajj), so upon reaching puberty, another Hajj is incumbent upon him. There are three cases for a child's Hajj: 1. Able to walk: He performs Tawaf (definition) and Sa'i for himself. 2. Unable but discerning (mumayyiz): The bearer and the carried both make intention for themselves, and one Tawaf and Sa'i suffice for both of them. 3. Indiscernible (non-mumayyiz) child: His guardian carries him and makes intention on his behalf, and one Tawaf and Sa'i suffice for both of them.

The correct view is that one Tawaf is sufficient for both the bearer and the carried, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) hadith (definition) when a woman asked him, "Is there Hajj for this one?" He said, "Yes, and you will have a reward," and he did not command her to perform two Tawafs. This is the madhhab (definition) of Abu Hanifa, and it was chosen by Ibn al-Mundhir and Ibn Hazm. Sheikh Ibn Baz and Ibn Jibreen are of the opinion that one Tawaf and one Sa'i are sufficient for both the bearer and the carried if the bearer makes intention for both of them. The guardian is responsible for the child; he enters into ihram (definition) on his behalf, makes intention for the ritual, and holds his hand or carries him.
