Why do your fatwas tend to prohibit photography despite its permissibility according to most contemporary scholars, and why do your fatwas concerning magic and jinn entrench backwardness, stating that whoever denies the jinn possessing humans is rejecting what is found in the Qur’an and Sunnah, even though many scholars deny this and there are no definitive and conclusive texts proving it?
It is not for a Muslim to harbor ill suspicions about his brethren or to accuse intentions. We excuse the scholars who differed on the issue of jinn possession of humans, and we do not say that whoever denies it is a denier of the Quran and Sunnah. Rather, we say that it is a rejection of what came in them, and we believe that the indication of the texts on this matter is clear. Nevertheless, the mujtahid is excused and rewarded.
As for photographic imaging, it is a new issue of ijtihad, and giving a fatwa concerning its permissibility or prohibition depends on what the mufti considers closest to the truth. It is not a condition that the preponderant opinion is what the majority have adopted, for the preponderant opinion is that which is closer to the indications of the Quran and Sunnah.
