Which is Islamically better: to close the Mus'haf, or to leave it open to continue reciting from where one left off?

Among the manners we are commanded to observe is the veneration of the Book of Allah and its protection from dust and the like, due to the Almighty's saying: "And whoever honors the sacred rites of Allah, it is better for him in the sight of his Lord." Therefore, it is preferable to close the Mushaf.
