What is the ruling on leaving the Mushaf open?
There is no harm in leaving the Mushaf open for someone who intends to resume reading, unless doing so leads to its degradation or exposure to harm, in which case it should be closed to preserve it. It is preferable to close it after finishing reading to protect it from dust and the like. Al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi mentioned that among the reverence due to the Mushaf is that it should not be left open and nothing should be placed on top of it. Sheikh Sulaiman Al-Majid issued a fatwa stating that there is no Sharia impediment to leaving it open, but it is better to close it for greater care.
