Do spouses meet and recognize each other in the life of Barzakh, and will they be together as in this world?

The souls of believers meet and recognize each other in the life of the Barzakh, though the rulings of the Barzakh differ from those of this world and belong to the realm of the unseen. Imam Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned several opinions regarding the resting place of souls after death, and he favored the view that they do not have a specific location but rather various places. The differing locations of souls do not prevent their meeting, just as the souls of the dead meet the souls of the living. The proof for this is Allah's saying: "Allah takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that do not die [He takes] during their sleep. Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death and releases the others for a specified term. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought."
