How can Jacob's -peace be upon him- command to Joseph not to relate his vision to his brothers be reconciled with the Prophet's -peace and blessings be upon him- saying: "If any of you sees what he likes, let him relate it"? And can the Hadith: "The vision is on the leg of a bird as long as it is not interpreted; but when it is interpreted, it occurs," be interpreted?

The general principle is that relating a beloved dream is permissible to someone the dreamer loves, as a way of recounting blessings. However, it is obligatory to conceal it if the dreamer fears envy or malice, as Ya'qub did with Yusuf (peace be upon them both). As for a disliked dream, one should not tell anyone about it.

It is substantiated by the hadith: "A dream is like a bird's leg, so long as it is not interpreted; once it is interpreted, it falls," which emphasizes the importance of concealing a blessing until it materializes, because "every possessor of a blessing is envied."
