What is the ruling on hanging posters, such as pictures, news, calls for partisanship, and advertisements, in the mosque?

It is permissible to use the mosque for everything that benefits Muslims, such as hanging news that concerns them and brings them good tidings, or illustrates the tragedies of their brethren. This is because the mosque, during the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him, was a place for teaching, preparing armies, and reciting poetry.

As for pictures, it is prohibited to place them in the mosque except out of necessity, because their presence prevents the entry of angels, and this is a practice of the Christians. This is indicated by the Prophet’s saying, peace be upon him: "Indeed, angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture." And his saying, when mentioning a church that contained images: "Those are the people who, when a righteous man among them died, built a place of worship over his grave and placed those images therein. Those are the worst of creation in the sight of Allah."
