The noble verse included a notification that Allah Almighty, through what He has clarified of lawful and unlawful, desires to return believers from a life of impurity and corruption to a life of purity and righteousness. And His saying: "Allah wishes to lighten (the burden) for you" means: in His laws, commands, and prohibitions, and "man was created weak." So, lightening the burden is suitable for his weakness in himself, his resolve, and his determination, especially regarding women. It was said concerning those meant by "those who followed desires": the adulterers, or the Jews and Christians, or the Jews specifically, or the people of falsehood in general, which is the most correct view. For reality testifies that many of the wicked and dissolute from the Ummah genuinely follow desires and wish to corrupt the Ummah.
