Under which category of Tawhid does the hanging of amulets and charms, which people believe protect from the evil eye or envy, fall: Tawhid al-Rububiyyah, Tawhid al-Uluhiyyah, or Tawhid al-Asma wa al-Sifat?

Hanging amulets (tama'im) is polytheism (shirk). These are charms hung on children for protection from the evil eye. The proof for this is the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, incantations (ruqa), amulets (tama'im), and enchantments (tiwala) are shirk." If one believes in their effectiveness in bringing benefit or harm, it is major shirk. If one takes them as a means while believing that Allah alone is the Granter of benefit and the Inflictor of harm, then it is minor shirk. This applies specifically to amulets that are not from the Qur'an or prescribed remembrances (adhkar). As for amulets from the Qur'an, the predecessors differed on the permissibility of hanging them, but the most sound opinion is that it is not permissible.
