Advising those who wear amulets involves clarifying the Sharia ruling and the prohibition of wearing them, and that they constitute polytheism if they are not from the Quran.

Maliki jurists have explicitly stated that amulets should be removed and their wearing prohibited to ward off the evil eye, citing the Hadith of Abu Bashir al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him): "There shall not remain on the neck of a camel a necklace made of a bowstring or any necklace but it must be cut off."

Imam Malik explained this by saying that people used to put bowstrings around the necks of camels, claiming it would protect them from the evil eye. So, he (the Prophet) commanded them to be cut off, indicating that bowstrings do not repel anything from Allah's decree. This is supported by the Hadith of Uqbah ibn Amir: "Whoever wears an amulet, may Allah not fulfill his wish."

Al-Zarqani holds that an amulet is anything hung as a necklace out of fear of the evil eye or similar beliefs.

Ibn Abd al-Barr said: "If the one who wears it believes that it repels the evil eye, then he has assumed that it repels destiny, and such a belief is impermissible."

Amulets are not permissible if they do not contain the remembrance of Allah Almighty, or if they are in Hebrew script, or if their content is unknown, as stated in the Hadith: "Whoever clings to something, he is entrusted to it," and "Whoever wears an amulet, may Allah not fulfill his wish."

Ibn Abd al-Barr al-Maliki mentioned that the majority of scholars believe it is not permissible to hang anything on a healthy human or animal out of fear of the evil eye, according to the correct opinion.
