Is shedding tears and looking at pictures of a deceased child considered a lack of patience, and how can one supplicate for them or give charity with the intention of the reward reaching them?

We bring you glad tidings of what Allah has promised those who are patient when afflicted by the loss of children. Allah the Almighty said: {And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.} [Al-Baqarah: 155-157].

We advise you to be patient, to praise Allah, and to seek reward, while being careful not to show distress or discontent, because the mere sadness of the heart and tears of the eye do not contradict patience.

As for supplication for the child, you may supplicate for him for elevated ranks and for his intercession for you on the Day of Resurrection, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to do. There is no harm in giving charity on his behalf with the intention that the reward be for him, although it is better that you give charity on your own behalf.

We advise you not to keep pictures that may cause sadness, which are prohibited by some scholars except out of necessity.
