What should I do about my attachment to composing music and lyrics, knowing that I must stop doing so?

Musical instruments and instruments of amusement are forbidden according to the majority of scholars, and one must stop them immediately and be mindful of Allah's watchfulness. Seek Allah's help so that He may make you dislike this matter and grant you repentance from it. Strive against yourself and your desires, for Allah has promised aid to those who strive, as He says: "And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good" (Al-Ankabut: 69). The outcome of this striving is praiseworthy, as He Almighty said: "But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] desire, then indeed, Paradise will be his refuge" (An-Nazi'at: 40-41). Occup yourself with what benefits you in this world and the Hereafter, such as reading the Quran, remembering Allah, and striving in worship.
