What is the ruling on raising one's voice at one's father and debating him due to his anger over the father raising a knife at the mother and destroying household furniture?

It is impermissible to raise one's voice at one's parents, as it constitutes ill-manners and disobedience (ʿuqūq). Allah has forbidden this, saying: "So do not say to them [even] 'uff' and do not repulse them." A father raising a knife at the mother is a grave error that warrants condemnation. However, it is not permissible for the son to rebuke the father for this after the act has concluded; rather, he should have prevented it had he been present. Parents have a unique status regarding enjoining good and forbidding evil, which should be done with gentleness and humility. The maintenance of a minor child who has no wealth is, by consensus, obligatory upon his father. As for the maintenance of adults, there is a difference of opinion among scholars. If a father falls short in an obligatory maintenance, someone influential should intercede with him. If he does not respond, the matter should be referred to the judiciary.
