The question

Is the young man who abandoned a girl after a three-year relationship, causing a deterioration in her academic and psychological state, considered unjust? And if so, why does he appear successful in his life despite the girl's prayers against him, and could his dutifulness to his mother be a reason for his success? And is it permissible for the girl to wish him failure? And will Allah punish this young man in this world or in the Hereafter only?

The answer

This world is a place for deeds, not for recompense. Allah may grant the disobedient a gradual allure (istidraj) or hasten his punishment so that he may repent. The young man's promise of marriage does not justify a prohibited relationship. You are not an innocent victim exempt from sin; rather, you are oppressing yourself. Occupy yourself with repenting to Allah by abandoning the sin, regretting it, resolving not to return to it, and concealing your own affairs.
