What is the ruling on watching pornography, and is it a minor or major sin, and does its ruling differ between a married person and an unmarried person?

Browsing pornographic websites is forbidden (haram), and it is a form of adultery of the eye. The prohibition of looking at women includes both Muslim and non-Muslim women, due to the generality of Allah's statement: "Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do." The reason for the prohibition is looking at what is not permissible.

Looking at what Allah has forbidden is not among the major sins if it is not repeated, but one should not be complacent about the sin. Insisting on a minor sin makes it a major one. "There is no minor sin with persistence, and no major sin with seeking forgiveness." Do not look at the smallness of the sin, but look at the greatness of Him Whom you have disobeyed. "Beware of minor sins, for they accumulate upon a man until they destroy him." Repentance and striving are necessary, and whoever sees him should advise him and instill in him the fear of Allah.
