Can something done before performing Istikhara be rectified?

Istikharah prayer is performed when one is hesitant between doing something and leaving it, or when the goodness in it is not clear, and not when one is resolute. If a Muslim is resolute about one of two matters, or if the aspect of goodness becomes clear to him, then there is no place for Istikharah at that point. Al-Bukhari narrated: "If any of you intends to do something, let him pray two rak'ahs other than the obligatory prayers, and then say: 'O Allah, I seek Your guidance by Your knowledge...'"

If the matter that has been done can be continued or reversed, and one is hesitant between continuing and abandoning it, then Istikharah can be performed at that time. However, if the matter cannot be rectified, then Istikharah has passed, and other means remain for facilitating affairs and bringing good, including: general supplication for Allah to facilitate goodness, avert evil, and grant contentment; and adhering to piety and righteous deeds, in accordance with His, the Almighty's, saying: ﴿And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect﴾ and His saying: ﴿Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life﴾.
