How can the desire for wealth be reconciled with being gathered with the poor and the needy?
There is no blame on a Muslim for striving for wealth, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed for wealth and sought refuge from poverty, and praised righteous wealth for a righteous man. The desired wealth is the richness of the soul from people. As for the : "O Allah, make me live as a poor person and die as a poor person..." it means humility, not abject poverty.
The superiority of the grateful rich person over the patient poor person is a matter of scholarly disagreement. The best view is that poverty and wealth are two trials for testing, and all virtue lies in sufficiency. Whoever wishes to combine wealth with being resurrected among the poor, let him fulfill the rights of his wealth with humility before Allah.
