Why do some sheikhs use Israelite stories in their interpretation of the verses of the Holy Qur'an, given that the Torah has been distorted, and with some of them confirming that these stories are Israelite?

The Israʼiliyyat (Biblical traditions) are of three types: what accords with the Quran, we believe it; what the Quran denies, we disbelieve it; and what the Quran neither affirms nor denies, we narrate it for the sake of edification, without either affirming or denying it, in accordance with the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Narrate from the Children of Israel, and there is no harm." Some exegetes have included these Israʼiliyyat in their books, sometimes elaborating on them. Therefore, scholars like Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir and Shaykh Al-Sa'di warned against excessive elaboration and introducing what is inappropriate. Al-Sa'di emphasized that anything beyond what Allah has narrated in the Quran concerning stories does not pertain to exegesis and should not be included.
