The answer

The death of a wine drinker is awful, but abandoning prayer until death is even more awful, for the major sin of abandoning prayer is the greatest sin after polytheism (shirk). Negligently and lazily abandoning prayer renders one a disbeliever in the view of some scholars, while the majority of jurists believe that one is not a disbeliever if one does not deny its obligation. Rather, such a person is among those who commit major sins, whose ultimate destination is Paradise if they die upon monotheism. Benefit can be extended to the husband through supplication for him, giving charity on his behalf, and gifting him the reward of good deeds.
