What is the ruling of the Sharia on parents preventing a girl from marrying and forcing her into a project with a usurious loan or mixed-gender work, and how should she deal with them?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Your family is oppressive and abusive towards you if they command you to engage in usury (riba) or mixed-gender work. There is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. If a suitable suitor proposes to you, and your family prevents you, refer your matter to the Sharia judge or the people of knowledge in your country. Honor your parents and associate with them in the best possible manner, as much as you can. Their right is great and is not forfeited by their oppression or their distance from religion.
