What is the ruling on a Muslim woman traveling to become an astronaut, knowing that she may be compelled to expose her 'awrah or be subjected to something that compromises her honor?

The matter is too obvious to be asked about. It is not permissible for a woman to travel by car on land except with a mahram, so how can it be permissible to travel into space accompanied by foreign men who are disbelievers? We do not believe that those who engage in such activities base their actions on Sharia rulings, as they are already immodestly dressed (mutabarrijat), and the hijab of a Muslim woman is among the matters upon which there is consensus regarding its obligation.

We have not found anyone among those who discussed the Sharia rulings related to space travel who addressed the issue of women traveling into space; rather, they discussed matters of purification (tahara), prayer (salat), and fasting (sawm).
