Will the one who abandons prayer be tormented in the grave?
If a person who abandons prayer dies while denying its obligation, then he is an infidel (kafir) and will be tormented in his grave. However, if he abandoned prayer due to laziness, he is not considered an infidel according to the majority of scholars. Nevertheless, abandoning prayer or neglecting it is among the causes of grave torment, while diligently observing it is a means of salvation from it. The believer is protected in his grave by his prayers, fasting, zakat, and all his righteous deeds; his grave will be spacious and illuminated, and he will see his abode in Paradise and Hellfire. In contrast, the grave of an infidel will be constricted, and he will be tormented within it, and he too will see his abode in Paradise and Hellfire.
