Is it permissible to make a statue out of snow?

Snow statues, if they do not include clear facial features, are permissible. The same applies to what children make for play, as it falls under the category of something disrespected (or used commonly). However, if they include facial details, the majority of scholars have ruled them to be forbidden, due to the general prohibition against making statues, such as those made from dough and sweets. The head is considered the essential part of a statue, so if the head is cut off or its features are obliterated, the prohibition is removed. The proof for this is the saying of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both: "The image is the head; if the head is cut off, it is not an image." Thus, if the image is not clear, having no eyes, nose, mouth, or fingers, it is not a complete image and does not imitate Allah's creation.
