What is the ruling on dedicating a separate room in the house for receiving guests and relatives, given the disagreement between the spouses on this matter, and one sheikh's view that this action is forbidden and that the house is for the marital couple, knowing that the house is owned by the questioner, and two rooms and separate facilities remain for the household, and the questioner is financially well-off?

There is no legal impediment to dedicating a room for guests in the house, provided there is enough space left for the family and they do not share facilities with the guests. This is based on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "A bed for a man, a bed for his wife, a bed for a guest, and the fourth for the devil." As for renting a house or a hotel for guests, it is an undue burden and is prohibited, based on Salman, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade us from imposing upon ourselves for a guest what we do not possess." There is no reason to prohibit dedicating a part of the house for guests as long as the house can accommodate both the family and guests without undue burden.
