The established Quranic readings do not contradict each other; rather, the difference between them is one of diversity, not opposition. Their meanings may be in agreement or close to each other, or each reading may have its own specific meaning, and both are true. This is affirmed by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, who quotes Abdullah ibn Mas'ud as saying: "It is like one of you saying 'come forward,' 'hither,' or 'come'," explaining that both sayings or actions, in the case of diversity in differences, are legitimate and true.
