Is the number of hours spent gaming—three hours a day—excessive, and what is its legal ruling for a student who studies eight hours a day and regularly prays in the mosque?

Recreation through permissible means is allowed, but in moderation. Spending three hours playing may be excessive because it reduces time for worship, for which humanity was created. A Muslim should not limit their worship to merely performing the five obligatory prayers.
